Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with Dev & Intel — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Vonage is thrilled to be a Hacktoberfest 2020 partner. We’re no strangers to Open Source, with our libraries, code snippets and demos all on GitHub. We’re looking forward to supporting participants, sharing our knowledge and chatting about how important and awesome open source contributions can be! You can check out all our Hacktoberfest activities, including events, resources and talks here.

Can't make it to this online meetup? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate today.

Rules and Rewards

First, sign up on the Hacktoberfest site at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com. To qualify for the official limited edition Hacktoberfest shirt, you must register and make four pull requests between October 1-31. Pull requests can be to any public repo on GitHub, not just the ones with issues labeled Hacktoberfest. If a maintainer reports your pull request as spam or spammy behavior, or not in line with the project’s code of conduct, you will be ineligible to participate.

Connect with other Hacktoberfest participants by using @DigitalOcean, @hacktoberfest, #hacktoberfest on your social media platform of choice.

New to DigitalOcean? Receive USD $100 in infrastructure credit at https://do.co/hacktoberfest100.

A Behind the Scenes Look into TraceTogether
TraceTogether's model of community-driven contact tracing is the first nationwide deployment of a Bluetooth contact tracing solution in the world. Learn how GovTech's engineering team developed TraceTogether and designed the BlueTrace protocol to be interoperable, and open sourced for the international community to continually develop and adapt it to their contract tracing needs.

Janice Tan
Janice is a Software Engineer at GovTech Government Digital Services. She’s really passionate about using technology and human-centred design to make a social impact. At GovTech, she has worked on various government grant portals, and most recently was part of the pioneering team of TraceTogether, the first Bluetooth contact-tracing solution deployed nationally, downloaded by more than 2 million users. When not coding, she likes to read, explore different ways of brewing coffee and learn new things. One thing she's curious about lately is learning how to learn, as that forms the foundation for all learning.

Igor Wojda
Igor Wojda is a passionate engineer with over a decade of software development experience. He is deeply interested in Android application architecture, Kotlin language and he is an active member of the open-source community. Igor is a conference speaker, technical proffer for 'Kotlin In Action' book and coauthor of ' Android Development with Kotlin' book. Igor enjoys sharing his passion for coding with other developers. Currently he is working as Android Developer Advocate at Vonage.
