Event Description

Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with Dev & Intel — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Hacktoberfest encourages developers to participate and work on the open-source (FOSS) in the month of October. This is the avenue wherein developers can pick and choose the open-source they want to contribute to on GitHub and submit PR’s that would affect the open-source project in a meaningful way. It could be as simple as authoring a README file on the open-source projects that one used earlier and struggled while working with it. This can be considered the time where one takes time and gives back something meaningful to the Open Source community. Additional information on the details of what is the Hacktoberfest Challenge can be got from https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/

An initial list of what we will be working on?

We are composing a list of open source projects that we intend to share. This list is foundationally based on our personal/professional interests and the impact it would have on the open-source community at large. Please feel free to add/indicate other projects in the open-source arena that we all as a community could contribute to. We can then start to organize ourselves into smaller groups (or pairs) organically based on where individuals would like to contribute.

Can't make it to this online meetup? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate today.

Rules and Rewards

First, sign up on the Hacktoberfest site at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com. To qualify for the official limited edition Hacktoberfest shirt, you must register and make four pull requests between October 1-31. Pull requests can be to any public repo on GitHub, not just the ones with issues labeled Hacktoberfest. If a maintainer reports your pull request as spam or spammy behavior, or not in line with the project’s code of conduct, you will be ineligible to participate.

Connect with other Hacktoberfest participants by using @DigitalOcean, @hacktoberfest, #hacktoberfest on your social media platform of choice.
