Atlanta Write the Docs Meetup Hacktoberfest Documentation Project, Session 4

October 24, 2020 10 AM to 2 PM EDT

The Atlanta Write the Docs Meetup is hosting events throughout the month of Hacktoberfest in order to help open source projects with their documentation. Our events are open and welcoming to anyone who wants to contribute to the documentation for open source projects, no matter where you're located. You can participate as little or as much as you want. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is here to learn and enjoy themselves.

What We'll Accomplish

This week's event is a doc sprint, where we work together or individually on open source documentation issues posted by project maintainers. We'll also review an easy method for capturing process information visually, and in a way that your business partners will want to own and maintain it.

Agenda

10:00 AM to 10:30 AM - Six Simple Things You Need to Know to Model a Process, with Q&A. Speaker: Barbara Summerville

Complex process narratives can be expressed in a way that almost anyone can comprehend through the use of six symbols and a few simple modeling rules.

10:30 AM to 11:00 AM - Brief review of work, lessons learned.

Participants will have a chance to discuss issues they may have encountered since the last session, and share insights about the projects they tackled.

11:00 AM to 1:50 PM - Writing Session.

Participants will have time to work on open source projects either individually or in small groups. Individuals and teams are free to pull your own projects. We recommend the searches below as a starting point. Of course we'll assist if needed.

1:50 PM to 2:00 PM - Review and Next Steps.

We’ll end the session by quickly reviewing what we learned and the expectations for the next session.
