WWCode SF Presents: Hacktoberfest Open-Source Night

Event Description

WWCSF is participating in Hacktoberfest by holding a hackathon to promote and work on open-source projects that help empower women in tech. Everyone who would like to work on this effort is welcome. Feel free to bring your own project, or come help on one of the projects we’re highlighting. To learn more about how Hacktoberfest works, see the bottom half of this description.

Women Who Code has open-source projects that we'd be thrilled to have help with. Note that most of them require admin permissions to be granted first, (and the event hosts are not those people!) so request to be a contributor here ASAP: https://womenwhocode.github.io/

One open-source project WWCode SF has been partnering with is Techtonica - it provides free tech training and job placement for unemployed or underemployed folks, and it’s online curriculum is free. Anyone can help by picking up an issue here:

Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with Dev & Intel — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Rules and Rewards

First, sign up on the Hacktoberfest site at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com. To qualify for the official limited edition Hacktoberfest shirt, you must register and make four pull requests between October 1-31. Pull requests can be to any public repo on GitHub, not just the ones with issues labeled Hacktoberfest. If a maintainer reports your pull request as spam or spammy behavior, or not in line with the project’s code of conduct, you will be ineligible to participate.
