Event Description

Indeed’s Open Source Program Office is excited to be a Hacktoberfest 2020 Community Partner! Indeed is committed to supporting the open source community and taking a more active role.

Starfish is an open source project we’re supporting during Hacktoberfest. Dani Gellis, the project's founder is hosting bi-weekly open office hours. We welcome attendees of all skill levels - from brand new to open source, to maintainers or creators of other projects. Our team looks forward to chatting and meeting everyone!

This year we're tagging more issues than ever and offering up swag to the general public! Find out how to score a sweet sweatshirt at https://go.indeed.com/hacktoberfest

Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with Dev & Intel — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.

Can't make it to this online meetup? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate today.

Rules and Rewards

First, sign up on the Hacktoberfest site at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com. To qualify for the official limited edition Hacktoberfest shirt, you must register and make four pull requests between October 1-31. Pull requests can be to any public repo on GitHub, not just the ones with issues labeled Hacktoberfest. If a maintainer reports your pull request as spam or spammy behavior, or not in line with the project’s code of conduct, you will be ineligible to participate.

Connect with other Hacktoberfest participants by using @DigitalOcean, @hacktoberfest, #hacktoberfest on your social media platform of choice.

New to DigitalOcean? Receive USD $100 in infrastructure credit at https://do.co/hacktoberfest100.

As the world's number 1 job site, our mission is to help people get jobs. Every month, over 250 million people around the world use Indeed in their job search. Our teams solve challenging problems with creative solutions to make this happen. We release open source solutions and share accomplishments and learnings. Starfish is a tool that: - Parses a CSV of GitHub IDs - Makes a GitHub Rest API call to check for open source contributions by those uses that happened between any two dates - Generates a list of GitHub IDs who have contributed to open source on GitHub
