Building Data-Driven Apps with Elasticsearch

Elevator Pitch: Everybody knows that Elasticsearch is an awesome technology to… you know, for search. But did you know that it can be equally awesome for other things related to data too? This talk will explain how to develop data-driven applications with JavaScript and using Elasticsearch as a backend. Abstract: From allowing Tinder to handle 26 million of swipes per day to helping GitHub to query 130 billion lines of code (technically these days way more than that) Elasticsearch is a technology that handles large data volumes without dropping too much of a sweat. In the past achieving this type of feat would require complicated big data infrastructure and tons of code but — today this is only a few clicks away with Elastic Cloud or with a less than 500MB download to install on-prem. This talk will provide an introduction to Elasticsearch and its architecture, as well as how it's client APIs can be used to develop data-driven applications. In order to demonstrate this the presenter will spin up a Elastic Stack from scratch using Elastic Cloud and then deploy an web application written in JavaScript that will generate data into Elasticsearch that can be subsequently queried and aggregated in near real time. Finally, It will be shown how to analyse the generated data using Kibana.
